Current and historical news articles can provide a useful insight into the public perception of a company, industry or corporate event over time. News coverage at a given point in time, can have a substantial influence on a company's reputation and performance.
This section will explore the different sources for business news as well as the various analytical tools provided by some of the financial and marketing databases to monitor and evaluate news, and social media sentiment.

Database with access to full-text newspaper articles and other news sources (Dutch and international).
Nexis Uni News contains major world publications (for example Financial Times), newspapers (including Dutch newspapers,such as De Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad) and news wires like PR Newswire.
Also included is company information, law reviews and cases
Please note: Legal news, law reviews and legal cases are mostly American.
Date range: The date range and update schedule differs per source. However, as the collection only contains born-digital material, the oldest items are from around 1990.

Provides access to content from periodicals and news media from 1980 up to today, both text based as well as audiovisual. More than 40% of the content is unique to the database.
A key feature of the Advanced Search option is that you can filter on very specific document (=content) types: from Advertisement and Aerial photography to Speech and Television programs. The Financial Times (FT) is an important daily news source of financial and economic information. FT also provides access to case studies, special reports, essays and commentaries.
On campus, you have access to FT without having to register for an FT account.
Off campus usage, usage of the FT app and usage of personalized FT settings, require an account at FT. You can set up an account with a full ERNA or EUR-MBA email address (e.g. 123456ab@student.eur.nl) at this page.
Once you have created an account with a unique user ID and password you will be able to access FT.com and the FT mobile app from anywhere.
Het Financieele Dagblad (FD) offers online access to FD.nl and the FD App. FD contains current company information and financial-economic news. You have access to the entire digital archive from 1985. Click on 'Additional info' for instructions to access.
Please note: EUR's access to FD will end on January 1, 2025. In MyEUR you can read more about this decision.
After logging in with your ERNA account you will be asked to create your own FD account. Use your ERNA email address for this and choose your own personal password. Note: do NOT use your ERNA password!

Tweets can be informative, nonsensical, funny, or controversial, this is what we call the social 'sentiment'. What Twitter does for the reputation of celebrities also applies to companies and stocks. Knowing the social sentiment of a particular investment can influence decision-making.
Bloomberg
Bloomberg provides social sentiment tools to monitor, categorise opinion, and provide charts and visualizations based on Twitter data. The Bloomberg Social Velocity (BSV) alerts allow you to track a company’s tweets and StockTwits.
Refinitiv Eikon
Eikon allows you to access and analyse on the most relevant tweets from market movers in real-time.
Refinitiv has developed a proprietary curated Twitter feed [TWTR] comprised of financial influencers, including financial market commentators, analysts, traders, global business leaders, political figures, governing bodies, financial media organizations and journalists.

Full-text archive of the oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation (founded 1838).
Started as "The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce", the paper published Wednesdays and Saturdays under the direction of Raobahadur Narayan Dinanath Velkar, a Maharashtrian Reformist, and contained news from Britain and the world, as well as the Indian Subcontinent. As of 1850 it publishes daily editions. In 1861 the newspaper got its present name. The archive has an embargo of 12 years, meaning in late 2024 content from 2012 will become available.
