What is Open Access?
Open Access is an international movement in academia that promotes free and unrestricted online access to scholarly publications. Its core principle is that research funded by public resources should be available to everyone, anywhere in the world, without financial or legal barriers.
There are several ways to make your research openly available, often referred to as different “routes” to Open Access. These include publishing directly in an Open Access venue (Gold or Diamond OA), making articles accessible in subscription-based journals for a fee (Hybrid OA), or depositing your work in a repository such as Pure (Green OA).
For a full overview of the different types and how they apply at Erasmus University, please see the official EUR Open Access page.
