In this introductory lecture, students learn what Open Science is, the origin of Open Science, and the reasons why doing Open Science can be important at multiple levels: for the community and society, for research and for individuals.

The duration of this module is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and contains the following elements:

- Lecture: Motives behind the Open Science movement

- Lecture: How does Open Science help achieve the goals of science?
- Group discussion: What do you see as the personal benefits of doing Open Science?
- Lecture: Take home messages and modules in research cycle
