You can connect your Open Science Framework (OSF) account to your ORCID iD: use the 'Sign in with ORCID' option, authorize OSF to get your ORCID iD, and make sure you enter the email address used for your OSF account (otherwise a new OSF account will be created for you). After making this connection, your ORCID iD will be included in the metadata of your new preregistrations and preprints.
Recommendations for preregistrations
- The DOI is registered via DataCite.
- In the Works section of your ORCID record, use the DataCite Search & Link Wizard to go to your DataCite Profile. There you can enable the auto-update via DataCite, via the 'Get ORCID Token' button.
- Via DataCite Commons you can claim your preregistrations not in your ORCID record yet: search by DOI or title, click the title of your preregistration and use the 'Claim DOI' button. The preregistration will be added to your ORCID record. ORCID has no specific publication type for preregistrations, so it will be added as 'Other'.
Recommendations for preprints
- The DOI is registered via Crossref.
- If you haven't given Crossref permission to auto-update your ORCID record for you, give them this permission when asked. It might be good to check your notification preferences in your ORCID record: make sure that below 'An ORCID member wants your permission to add or update my ORCID record' 'Never' isn't selected.
- Use the 'Add DOI' option in the Works section of your ORCID record to add preprints not in your ORCID record yet - you might have to edit the metadata and delete the information in the journal title field.
